The Military Support Group of NJ Inc. (MSGNJ) has two upcoming opportunities to raise funds for our deployed troops – the monies go toward items for the care packages that we send out each month & the cost of postage.

1. we will hold our Second Annual Bowling Fundraiser on SUNDAY, MAY 20, 2012, at 30 Strikes Bowling Lanes, White Horse Pike, in Stratford, NJ 08084. This family-style event includes Live DJ Music with Billy Johns (formerly of WIFI 92FM), Bowling, Pizza and Soda for 2 hours - 12noon to 2pm. You can even bring snacks along (no alcohol, please) Tickets are $15 and available NOW. Please bring your family, friends, etc. for a fun afternoon and a chance to support our troops! Tickets can be purchased at our monthly meeting on May 10th (at Chews United Methodist Church 6:30pm to 9pm) or contact Army Mom Marcelle Shriver at ron101abn@comcast.net

2. The PBA (Policemen’s Benevolent Assn Local 105) along with POSSI (PA Owners of SS Impala) are holding their First Annual Springtime Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show - Sunday, May 27th, 10am to 4pm at Stone Grille Restaurant, 1300 Blackwood-Clementon Rd., Clementon NJ 08021,to benefit the troops. They will donate the proceeds to the MSGNJ! The show is Free to attendees.

If you wish to show your car, motorcycle or truck, preregistration is $15 prior to May 20th, $20 day of show.Contact Jesse at 856-986-6777.

Please come out to give a loud welcome home to Army Specialist Jason “JT” Maahs from serving in Afghanistan.

Jason is a 2005 graduate of Holy Cross High School.

For a short while, Jason worked as a pipe insulator and attended Arcadia University.

He joined the Army in 2008.

For basic training, he attended Ft. Benning.

After leaving for Ft. Lewis, WA, he was soon deployed to Afghanistan where he was the 50 Gunner in a Striker Truck.

He was deployed to Afghanistan ahead of his Unit’s deployment to assist in preparation and set up.

Jason comes from a family that serves their country very proudly; as his Brother Thomas serves in The U.S. Army as well and is stationed currently in Hawaii as a Staff Sergeant.

Friends, Family, The Warriors Watch, The Yellow Ribbon Club, Maple Shade Township, The Cherry Hill Police Department, The Cherry Hill Fire Department, Cherry Hill Township, and others will be on hand to make some noise and welcome home this Hero in Rock Star style.

9-11 Call to Action

Dear Friends,

As you know, September 11, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Several members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department made the trip to New York City on that fateful day to lend a hand to their brother firefighters and police officers. Because of their efforts, Cherry Hill Township was presented with a piece of the beam from the Trade Center’s north tower. In order to honor the firefighters, police officers and civilian victims of that fateful day, Cherry Hill Township, the Cherry Hill Fire Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department are incorporating the piece of crossbeam into a permanent memorial that will be dedicated on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 8:00 am at the Central Command of the Cherry Hill Fire Department on Marlkress Road in Cherry Hill, NJ.

To that end, I am raising funds to help construct the memorial by running the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6, 2011. I am asking for your help with a contribution of $26.20 which reflects $1.00 for every mile of the New York Marathon. All proceeds will be used to offset costs associated with the construction of the memorial. If you are able to make a contribution, please make your check payable to Cherry Hill Fire Prevention & Protection and indicate 9-11 Memorial in the memo portion of your payment. You can mail your contribution to the Cherry Hill Fire Department located at 1100 Marlkress Road, Cherry Hill NJ, 08003.

Mark was born and raised in Gloucester City until his time of enlistment with the US Army. March, 2010, he graduated Gloucester City High School 2008, where he played soccer at the position of Goalie. Mark also played for the Gloucester City Mustangs Football Team.

Mark attended his Freshmen year of College at Neumann University in Aston, PA. After his freshmen year, he decided to follow in his families military background by enlisting in the US Army.

He did his boot camp @ Ft. Jackson, SC; sent for AIT @ Ft. Huachuca, AZ and stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA., with the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, assigned to Special Ops.

This was his first tour for duty during Operation Enduring Freedom and arrived back in the states to Ft. Bragg, then back to Ft. Lewis, WA on Thursday of last week, where he was debriefed prior to his homecoming.

Mark achieved Expert with the rifle; has earned Operation Enduring Freedom Ribbon and other commendations during his tour of duty.

Mark is a dual member of the Brooklawn American Legion Post 72.

Mark wanted to follow in his families military footsteps. His father Mick Ward is a Past Commander of American Legion Post 72. His dad also served in the US Army Infantry Unit First of 114th ARNG out of Woodbury, NJ.

Uncle Chick Ward served with US Army Signal Corp. He was station in Korea 1972. Rob Laughlin (cousin) also served in the US Army Artillery where he had a tour in Iraq from April 2003 -March 2004. (WELCOME HOME) and cousins Rocco & Mikey Ward also served in US Army.

Please come out to welcome home Private First Class Lawrence “Trip” Spellman from serving in Iraq.

Lawrence A. “Trip” Spellman was born in Washington DC in 1991 and moved to Medford in 1992.

He is a 2009 graduate of Shawnee High School.

After high school, he left for basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri where he received his training as a member of the Military Police.

In January of 2010, he spent several months in Ft. Stewart, Georgia training for deployment to Iraq with the Fourth Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division.

He was deployed on the July 4, 2010 to Fallujah, Iraq, and soon thereafter was transferred to Ramadi, where he remained for the rest of his deployment.

Trip has received the Combat Action Badge and the Army Achievement Medal.

Recently, United States Forces – Iraq Commander, Four Star General Lloyd Austin on a trip to Iraq awarded Trip and 9 other Vanguard Soldiers with his personal coin for outstanding performance.

Friends, Family, The Warriors Watch, The Yellow Ribbon Club, The Medford Police Department, The Medford Fire Department, Medford Township, and others will be on hand to
make some noise and welcome home this Hero in Rock Star style.

Support Your Troops Collections

Thank you to everyone who gave food for the Air Force families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. With the collections, we were able to fill up 3 trucks. Awesome!

Thank you all. And thank you to Nancie, Will & John for being our transportation and bringing the goods to their final destination.

There are many young children and babies in this group, we will collect disposable diapers, and diaper wipes for our June 9th meeting.

Please come out to welcome home Master Sergeant Dan Caldarale from serving in the Middle East.

Master Sergeant Dan Caldarale’s career with the Army National Guard started in the summer of 1981 where he had basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia.

He then spent a few years as a National Guard Reservist in an Infantry Unit before joining the active duty force of The NJ Army National Guard. With now 30 years of service to his country, he is currently an Inspector General Investigator.

Additionally, Dan attended the police academy in 1995. He is currently a Patrolman and a Crash Investigator and has been a Police Officer for over 16 years. He has served with the North Hanover Police Department since May 2007.

Dan is married to Erica, who also has served her country and with the NJ Army National Guard from 1995 to 2008. Erica and Dan were married in 1998 and now have 2 boys; Matthew and Ryan, who are more than excited about the return of their daddy.

Friends, Family, A Hero’s Welcome, The Warriors Watch, The Yellow Ribbon Club, The Delran Police and Fire Departments, The Delran Emergency Squad, along with Delran Township will be on hand to make some noise and welcome home this hero in Rock Star style.

Military Support Group Fundraiser

Hello Everyone:

I wanted to remind you about our annual fundraiser to support the deployed Troops.

This year it will be held on Friday, March 25th from 7pm to midnight at the The Columbus Manor, 1351 North Black Horse Pike, Williamstown, NJ

We are selling tickets for $25 each (food, Live music and Beer/soda/coffee) so if you want to ask your family, friends and coworkers, it is a good Cause and a FUN time. (Tickets are going fast!) There will be a "chinese" auction and we do welcome donation baskets!

There will be no tickets at the door and last call for tickets is March 17th. Tickets are available now and at our next MSGNJ meeting on Thursday, March 10th or by contacting any MSGNJ member. Hope you’ll all be able to come

Please come out to welcome home Airman 1^st Class Michael Harroldfrom serving in Afghanistan.

Michael is 20 years old and a graduate of Colts Neck High School. He completed two years of ROTC in High School, in addition to playing Lacrosse all four years, being named MVP his Junior year.

Michael comes from a family of veterans. His mother, father and uncle are all veterans of the Air Force. His girlfriend, Kristen is a student at Montclair State University.

Michael enlisted in the Air Force in June of 2008. At the end of July, he received his approval and was sworn in the 1^st week of August. On September 1^st, he left for Air Force Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Michael graduated from Basic Military Training School on October 16^th and left the following week for Technical Training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi training in Ground Radio Communication Maintenance. Some of his job responsibilities include working with all types of telecommunication equipment including ground radios, computers, satellites, and anything relating to communications.

After completion of tech school, he received orders to his first assignment at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. He then completed two additional training segments back at Keesler Air Force Base.

In April of 2010, Michael received orders for his first tour of duty in Afghanistan. He deployed on July 20^th to Forward Operating Base Spin Boldak located in Southern Afghanistan, three miles from the Pakistan border. On Friday, January 14^th, Michael was awarded with the Air Force Joint Commendation Medal as well as an ISAF Medal.

Prior to being deployed to Afghanistan, Michael began taking classes to work towards his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has continued taking classes during his deployment and will continue to do so upon his return back to Langley Air Force Base.
