Military Support Group Meeting January

Hello Everyone,

Our next Military Support Group Meeting is next Thursday, January 12th. Please come on out, bring a friend or family member to see what we are all about. Coffee starts at 6:30pm and Meeting promptly at 7pm. at Chews United Methodist Church, 319 Black Horse Pike, Glendora, NJ 08029. ALL are welcome!

While we send care packages out monthly to our Deployed Troops - We also support our troops at home! This month: We are collecting food stuffs for our Wounded Warriors – if you are able, please bring out 6 packs of raisins, puddings & fruit, granola bars, small microwave meals: soups, pasta, etc., or tuna & chicken salad with cracker sets, juice boxes, etc. Thank you!

VetsFirst Policy Priorities for 2011 Include Services for Vets with Disabilities

Whether acquired during military service or after returning home, a disability affects every aspect of a veteran’s life. Some vets need caretakers to enable them to perform the activities of daily living and to remain productive. Appropriate prosthetic and orthotic devices, the rehabilitative care needed to use them properly, service animals, and prompt health services are often denied to veterans with disabilities due to lack of reliable funding. Those who have developed mesothelioma, the deadly cancer caused by asbestos exposure, need prompt, appropriate medical care and compensation for lost income. Since 1946, VetsFirst has fought for the right of veterans and their families to receive adequate health care and compensation. This year’s policy priorities focus on four areas:

Fostering Community Integration and Independence
Ensuring Timely Access to Quality VA Health Care and Benefits
Recognizing the Sacrifices of Families and Survivors
Promoting the Rights of Veterans with Disabilities within the VA and Worldwide

In order to accomplish these goals, VetsFirst lobbies Congress in support of bills that promote quality health care and access to services for veterans with disabilities. They recently met with staff of key politicians, including Marlin Stutzman of Indiana, who chairs the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee; Congressman Jon Runyan of New Jersey, who chairs the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee; and Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle of New York, who chairs the Subcommittee on Health of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee in Washington DC. They also visited the offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Eliot Engel of New York. Both Senator Schumer and Representative Engel are in key positions to minimize cuts to Medicaid, which many post service disabled veterans rely on for medical care. They discussed reform of the VA’s benefits claims process, and passage of the Veterans Equal Treatment for Service Dogs Act. While our veterans’ organizations work tirelessly to secure better medical care funding and access to services for all veterans, individuals can also help. Writing to a Congressman is a very effective tool in this effort and costs very little. The price of a postage stamp and some paper can give every veteran access to a Congressman or Senator eager to please constituents. Hand written letters gain more attention because they cannot be mass-produced. A telephone call is always another option.

Funeral Service Oct 8th

The Department of Defense announced the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Capt. Ryan K. Iannelli, 27, of Clarksboro, N.J., died Sept. 28 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, Marine Air Group 29, 2nd Marine Air Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. Posthumously promoted to Captain, Ryan was a Cobra helicopter Pilot with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269. He was a graduate of Kingsway Regional High School and Oral Robert University in addition to being an esteemed officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Marine Capt. Ryan K. Iannelli, a Clarksboro native, will come home forever, his life and service celebrated during the services arranged by Landolfi Funeral Home of Paulsboro.

Services will be held at the Gloucester County Community Church, on 359 Chapel Heights Road, Sewell. Viewing is scheduled for Saturday October 8th at 11:15 a.m., The funeral begins promptly at noon.

Interment will take place at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery in Monroe Township.

Iannelli’s family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Please pray for Captain Iannelli’s family and friends.

9-11 Call to Action

Dear Friends,

As you know, September 11, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Several members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department made the trip to New York City on that fateful day to lend a hand to their brother firefighters and police officers. Because of their efforts, Cherry Hill Township was presented with a piece of the beam from the Trade Center’s north tower. In order to honor the firefighters, police officers and civilian victims of that fateful day, Cherry Hill Township, the Cherry Hill Fire Department and the Cherry Hill Police Department are incorporating the piece of crossbeam into a permanent memorial that will be dedicated on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 8:00 am at the Central Command of the Cherry Hill Fire Department on Marlkress Road in Cherry Hill, NJ.

To that end, I am raising funds to help construct the memorial by running the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6, 2011. I am asking for your help with a contribution of $26.20 which reflects $1.00 for every mile of the New York Marathon. All proceeds will be used to offset costs associated with the construction of the memorial. If you are able to make a contribution, please make your check payable to Cherry Hill Fire Prevention & Protection and indicate 9-11 Memorial in the memo portion of your payment. You can mail your contribution to the Cherry Hill Fire Department located at 1100 Marlkress Road, Cherry Hill NJ, 08003.

Please come out to welcome home Master Sergeant Dan Caldarale from serving in the Middle East.

Master Sergeant Dan Caldarale’s career with the Army National Guard started in the summer of 1981 where he had basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia.

He then spent a few years as a National Guard Reservist in an Infantry Unit before joining the active duty force of The NJ Army National Guard. With now 30 years of service to his country, he is currently an Inspector General Investigator.

Additionally, Dan attended the police academy in 1995. He is currently a Patrolman and a Crash Investigator and has been a Police Officer for over 16 years. He has served with the North Hanover Police Department since May 2007.

Dan is married to Erica, who also has served her country and with the NJ Army National Guard from 1995 to 2008. Erica and Dan were married in 1998 and now have 2 boys; Matthew and Ryan, who are more than excited about the return of their daddy.

Friends, Family, A Hero’s Welcome, The Warriors Watch, The Yellow Ribbon Club, The Delran Police and Fire Departments, The Delran Emergency Squad, along with Delran Township will be on hand to make some noise and welcome home this hero in Rock Star style.

Please come out and welcome home Specialist Traci Petaway from serving a 2nd tour in Afghanistan. Yes, she has been there twice.

Traci is 24 years old. She graduated from Palmyra High School. She began serving the US Army while in her Junior year. She is also a member of a local church under the sheparding of Pastor Keith & Linda Davis at Evangelism Today Christian Church in Camden, NJ.

Traci has a 2 year old daughter, named Arabelle. Her parents, Darlene and Jarrett and grandparents, Rebecca and Lawrence Barnes, have been a great support to her. Lawrence recently passed away in December while Traci was in Afghanistan.

Traci’s family and many friends are very happy to see her home safe and request that we give her a nice LOUD welcome home. I think we can accommodate this request, but we need your help.

The Warrior Watch Riders, Yellow Ribbon Club, Palmyra Fire Dept and Police Dept. will be on hand to assist in making this a memorable welcome home.

Military Support Group Fundraiser

Hello Everyone:

I wanted to remind you about our annual fundraiser to support the deployed Troops.

This year it will be held on Friday, March 25th from 7pm to midnight at the The Columbus Manor, 1351 North Black Horse Pike, Williamstown, NJ

We are selling tickets for $25 each (food, Live music and Beer/soda/coffee) so if you want to ask your family, friends and coworkers, it is a good Cause and a FUN time. (Tickets are going fast!) There will be a "chinese" auction and we do welcome donation baskets!

There will be no tickets at the door and last call for tickets is March 17th. Tickets are available now and at our next MSGNJ meeting on Thursday, March 10th or by contacting any MSGNJ member. Hope you’ll all be able to come
